Spring Informal Recruitment Opportunity!

Sunday March 5th

The purpose of this Open House Event is to give you, the PNM, a unique recruitment opportunity to get to know several of the IFC Chapters here at the University of Kansas.

12:00 PM        Check-in @Jayhawk Room, Kansas Memorial Union 5th Floor
12:30 PM        Informational Presentation
1:00 PM          Fraternity Meet and Greet
2:00 PM          House Tours
5:00 PM          End of Tours and Dismissal of Activities

The Fraternity Open House Event will be held in a similar fashion to a career fair. At 12:30 there will be a brief informational presentation in Jayhawk Room. There we will give you a general overview of Greek Life at the University, and some helpful information to preface your visits with chapters. After the presentation, all PNM’s will be free to tour the adjoining Big 12 Room, where several chapters will be manning tables to get to meet you and tell you about their chapters.

The unique part of this event is that following the meet-and-greet, there will be an optional housing tour from 2:00-5:00. The housing tours following the event will give you the opportunity to learn more about a prospective chapter you wish to join. As you participate in the meet-and-greet, keep track of the chapters that you are interested in and want to visit. A full list of chapters participating in the housing tours will be provided in the coming weeks.

To prepare for this kind of event it is recommended that PNM’s visit the kuifc.org webpage. On this webpage one can find information regarding specific chapters, including their respective website addresses, and information regarding rush in general. Simply bring a good attitude, and an excitement about Greek Life.

It is always helpful to have some questions about Greek Life at the ready for Rush Events like these, so here are a few to consider:

1.      How many members are a part of your Chapter?

2.      Do you have a chapter house? How many live in?

3.      What programs do you provide for 1st year members?

a.      Do you have member education?

b.      What study programs do you provide?

4.      What intramural’s do you participate in?

5.      Where is your Chapter House? When and where do you hold your Chapter Meetings?

6.      What kind of standards do you hold members and new members to? Are those standards different?

7.      As a new member, what sort of responsibilities would I have?

8.      Is it required to live in the chapter facility as a freshman?

a.      About how much does that cost?

b.      Do I get my own room? Are there sleeping dorms?

9.      What kind of social events do you have?

10.   What was your average GPA this year?

11.   What will your Fraternity do for me as a member?
