Housing Information

Fraternity residential housing has been a long-standing tradition at KU. 13 out of our 17 IFC fraternities are currently housed. Each chapter house is made up of a small group of closely connected people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Living alongside your fraternity brothers offers you an immediate, close-knit group of friends to ease your transition into the university environment. From collaborating on class projects to working on Homecoming activities, living in a fraternity is truly a home away from home.

Note: A few fraternities provide an alcohol-free housing environment. Others have specific rules on when alcohol can be consumed on property.

Amenities in many chapter houses:

Walking distance from campus, reserved parking spots, basketball courts, work-out rooms,  on-site laundry facilities, single or shared rooms, libraries and other study facilities, living rooms, spacious dining rooms and kitchens, meals prepared by professional cooks, computer and study rooms, high-speed wireless internet access, recreational areas and big-screen TVs, live-in house directors

*Disclaimer: Fraternity and sorority housing is not owned, controlled, managed, screened or inspected by the University of Kansas.

Housing FAQ

Q: Do I have to live in the fraternity house?

A: Another great question that depends on the chapter. The IFC at KU is somewhat unique in comparison to other universities, as most freshmen new members live in chapter facilities during their first year of college, rather than in a residence hall. Likely, you will want to live in the house to take advantage of the opportunities it presents. Talk to the men who currently live in the house for more information about what its like to live there.

Q. I have a housing contract with KU Department of Student Housing, can I cancel my contract and move into a Fraternity House?

A. This contract may be cancelled prior to checking in to Student Housing by submitting a written cancellation request to the Department of Student Housing central office. A written request to cancel will be approved until the student checks in to the housing unit. After check-in, cancellation requests will not be approved for students who remain enrolled but wish to move to off-campus locations, including Greek chapter houses.
