Unstructured recruitment

Informal recruitment is a more relaxed process where sororities (or fraternities) and potential new members (PNMs) connect through casual events like meet-and-greets. Most chapters participate, as it’s when many new members are chosen. Invitations to join can be extended if you meet the requirements. This type of recruitment happens year-round, with main periods in the fall, spring, and summer, after the formal recruitment ends.

Fall Informal

Fall informal recruitment is hosted for current KU students who were not able to connect with a chapter prior to the start of the semester or during structured, formal recruitment during the second week of classes. Not all chapters will continue recruiting, therefore not all IFC chapters will participate in this process.

Spring Informal

Many chapters begin this type of informal recruitment process right around the end of January and the beginning of February. This informal process will therefore most likely begin for most around mid-February and will continue throughout the spring term.

Summer Informal

In the summer, the IFC will have a calendar of events that outline chapter events they are hosting, as this is the most popular time for recruitment. We encourage PNMs to check out chapters’ individual websites and reach out to their recruitment chairs if they are interested in connecting with that chapter. Otherwise, please fill out our interest form (located under Recruitment Tab, General Overview) to have your information shared with all 17 IFC chapters.

Directions for navigating unstructured recruitment:

If you are an incoming first-year or transfer for the upcoming fall term and interested in being included on the IFC interest list and potentially participating in a chapter’s informal process we recommend the following:

  1. Want to join a fraternity? CLICK HERE! This information will be sent to the recruitment officers of all chapters on a weekly basis throughout spring. It will be at the chapter’s discretion to follow up.

  2. Visit our INDIVIDUAL CHAPTERS page to find contact information for specific chapters of interest. You're encouraged to email the listed recruitment officers of the chapters you might be interested in joining.

  3. Review the chapter’s social media pages to learn more about the organization’s values and mission and opportunities to connect.

  4. Attend chapter recruitment events and IFC structured recruitment events as they become available to you.

  5. Eventually, chapters may extend you a formal invitation to join their organization, also known as a Bid. When and if you do receive one or more bids, you must decide on a single chapter and return the signed bid to the recruitment chair(s). Once that is done, the recruitment process is finished.
